Hugo Villanueva, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained minimally invasive surgeon with advanced training in laparoscopic and robotic techniques. He provides care for a wide range of general surgical conditions, including gallbladder disease, hernias, gastrointestinal conditions and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Depending on the procedure and the needs of the patient, surgery may be performed using minimally invasive or traditional open techniques. Minimally invasive surgery uses smaller incisions and specialized instruments and may offer benefits for appropriate patients, including less postoperative discomfort and a shorter recovery.
Dr. Villanueva also provides endoscopic and diagnostic services, including colonoscopy and EGD. In-office services include skin lesion removal, incision and drainage, and Velacur liver assessment, a non-invasive ultrasound assessment of liver stiffness and attenuation. He also offers medical weight management services, including GLP-1 therapy.
