Patient Testimonials

What do patients have to say about their experiences at Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber?

“The nursing staff was very professional, courteous, and caring at all times, making dealing with my infection easier. I will continue to choose CCSMCW for my healthcare, and for my family. First Class all the way!”

“Truly patient-centered care! Everyone from the doctors, to the nurses and registrars were friendly and helped to soothe the pre-testing nerves. Would definitely recommend for excellent care.”

“Friendly, caring staff who take time to explain things and don’t rush testing.”

“Absolutely excellent. I could not have asked for any better care. It made a painful situation manageable.”

“I was a patient in Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber in April and was very pleased and extremely happy of all the nice nurses and doctors there. Let’s just say it is not my last visit to Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber and it is my first choice from now on.”

“All physicians that treated me during my stay were excellent professionals!”

“We walked into the respiratory department at Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber in hopes of finding a pulmonary doctor for my husband on Monday. Our real hope was to actually have that doctor X-ray him and diagnose his cough that hadn’t responded to penicillin. We were successful, but only because we came upon an angel named Stacey, who made it happen. You could have easily said you couldn’t help, or that you were busy (which you were), or that you would have to redirect us. But no, your compassionate heart and professionalism caused you to pick up the phone and you continued dialing until you made the impossible happen and both my husband and I are eternally grateful that we found you when we had given up all hope. Thank you seems so trite, but it is most sincere. May the Lord ever richly bless you for your goodness and kindness.

“We are extremely fortunate to have a cutting-edge healthcare facility such as the Chan Soon- Shiong Medical Center at Windber. Inarguably, the medical center, along with its doctors, staff personnel and its time-tested operational protocol are such that I sincerely believe it sets the gold standard in healthcare for not only our area but for the healthcare industry in general. If one were to study efficiency, effectiveness and how to achieve ultimate results, Chan Soon-Shiong is the place to do it.”

“Appreciate the “home town” facility. Bigger is not always better!!”

“You as an institution make everything very relaxing. They talk to you and don’t make you feel like an assembly line.”

“When you enter the Medical Center, you can smell a wonderful fragrance and it is always nice and clean. It doesn’t feel like a hospital. It feels like a fancy hotel. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I am very pleased with this hospital. Thank you very much.”

“Team work by staff was excellent. Communication from doctor was excellent. Facility very clean.”

“This hospital is the most efficient, caring, and comfortable hospital in the area. You are to be commended. Friendly staff.”

“No one likes a hospital stay, but if they were as good as mine, most people would accept it and be thankful to those administrating the care given. I know I am!”

“We the family of the patient and the patient herself would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your wonderful care and concern during her hospital stay in the Critical Care Unit, following her stroke in August. What we witnessed during her stay was unbelievable. The entire staff and we mean entire staff was found to be a very, very caring and understanding staff; going above and beyond their duties at all times. A very special thank you to Barb, along with Holly, Josh, Chris and all the staff included who cared so deeply for the patient, and for us as the family to her. You will never know how much it meant to all of us to see the kindness shown to her while in your care. We are sure that you have heard the words thank you so many times, but we want you to know that when you hear it this time from all of us, it truly has meaning and it is truly coming from the bottom of all of our hearts. So thank you and may God bless each and every one of you for the work that you do.” A satisfied CSSMCW family.

“The ER staff and physician was great. ER was very busy that day, but staff was calm and pleasant.”

“This past week I was in extreme pain after going to another emergency room and basically being shrugged off. I came to Windber as a second opinion. I walked in and was barely able to talk let alone swallow. The nurse triaged me fast and then started getting lab work done. The doctor came in and gave me an answer to what was wrong. Finally! Then he ran some more tests and when he got the reports from the other hospital he even went over them and explained that he was upset about the way they had treated me. The doctor then started me on IV antibiotics and I was in for the next 2 nights. I can’t thank the doctors and nurses enough for finally finding out what was wrong. I’ve come to Windber before and will continue to go there.”

“ER doctor was excellent! Possibly saved my life – many thanks to him and staff!”

“We the family of a former patient, would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your wonderful care and concern during her emergency room visit, following her stroke in August. What we witnessed during her visit was unbelievable. The entire staff was found to be a very, very caring and understanding staff, going above and beyond their duties at all times. A very special thank you to Dr. Prakash Phulwani for taking the time to explain the situation to us and for helping us to make the right decisions that needed to be made that day and for being so patient with is as we did so. He was so very kind as was the entire staff who cares so deeply for the patient, and for us as her family. You will never know how much it meant to all of us to see the kindness shown to her while in your care. Thank you and may God bless each and every one of you for the work that you do. Thanks again and please keep up the good work.”

“I wanted to write you a short note to let you know what a wonderful ER you have. I worked 16 years up north in an ER and never can I remember it being such a wonderful place such as yours. Professionalism is the key to this from check in to sign out. They make you feel like a person NOT a number. Right now I live in Johnstown and refuse to go there for treatment of any kind. Your doctors and nurses are the best I have ever come across. You should be proud of each and every one of them. I will never go to our local hospital here. Thank you so much for giving the public such a nice place to go. The doctors are SO competent and honest; and the nurses, sheer perfection. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all of them. God bless. A satisfied CSSMCW patient”.

“The entire staff from the ER to CCU was excellent. You could see and feel the compassion and concern from each person.”

“I have to admit that when Dr. Ellenberger suggested hospice for our mother, Lois, I was skeptical. I pictured “cold” personnel, clinical procedures and a very sterile environment. I had a lot to learn. When Windber Hospice came to the house, literally everyone was wonderful. Everyone was so warm and caring. The patience and attention shown not only to our mother, but to all of us, was outstanding. You listened when we asked questions and explained situations so clearly. You all became like family. You should all be so proud of yourselves and what you do. You as individuals and your services provided are simply awesome. Pat yourselves on the back and keep doing what you are doing. You have brought such comfort to our Mom and family, as I’m certain you do to everyone you service. The look of peace on Mom’s face when she passed is a testament to that. Cannot find the words to thank all of you enough, so we will just say Thank You!”

“Let me take a moment to express how thankful we are that we had Windber Hospice for our mother’s end of life care. Every moment she encountered was awesome care combined with love and respect. She, who could be very careful, cautious and discerning, never doubted you. When she spent time in the PCU, she actually liked it. You allowed her freedom to be herself and to also be cared for. I admire all the nursing staff who could be that professional and also flexible. And cookie baking! You were awesome! Our care at home was always complete-with expertise, with every question answered and every issue addressed. We have to love all the home nurses that visited us. I have such respect for you, and we consider you to be our friends, and so did she. She was very intone with new ways of healing and Dr. Warshel was sent by God to be her doctor. She was so energized by any new approach and so open to the alternatives that in many places would have never been suggested. She and Dr. Warshel were on the same wavelength from day one. I will miss all of you. You provided healing and care for this whole family. We really love all of you who were her caregivers. I hope we have the opportunity to support your work in the future. The book does not close. We just turn the page to begin a new chapter. We are so pleased to have all of you in this family’s story. God Bless, A grateful CSSMCW family.”

“We wanted to let all of you know what grateful hearts we have for the wonderful care that you gave to our husband and father these last few months. The first time meeting with Barbra and Diane was calming for my mom and I. Diane and Melanie, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful care that you gave to him. Diane, thank you for all of your phone calls to me each week to let me know how my dad was doing. Thank you for all of your nursing care and the love that you showed my dad. He was so lucky to have you there watching over him and seeing to it that he was comfortable and not having pain or discomfort. I also wanted to thank the volunteers and the chaplain that came to my dad’s room to comfort us and support us as we said goodbye to our wonderful husband and father. Thank you so much Debbie who came to the funeral home to see that we were okay and offered wonderful words of comfort and encouragement about the days and weeks ahead and that the hospice would still be with us. It is difficult to find the right words to thank all of you, but we know that he says thank you as well. He was blessed to have Diane and Melanie there for him.”

“The JMBCC staff were excellent. I would recommend this facility to family and friends. Keep up the excellent work.”

“The mammo tech was very wonderful, efficient, and knowledgeable.”

“A close friend, who is having significant medical challenges, had an MRI done a few days ago at the JMBCC. After the test, she was given hot bread with butter and jelly. The simple offer of that gesture and the caring attitude of the staff was so meaningful to my friend it was unbelievable. Those simple acts of caring mean so much to people facing medical challenges that it helps brighten up their day for even a little while. Thank you from the bottom of my heart that you made my friend feel special and well cared for.”
