1. What is your specialty?
I am a board certified adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. I specialize in diagnosing and treating patients with gastrointestinal disorders and surgical issues. I also play a vital role in providing supervised weight management for bariatric surgery patients and those that wish to participate in our non-surgical medical weight management program.

2. Why did you want to become a CRNP?
As an inpatient bedside registered nurse, I always embraced the opportunity to learn. As I gained experience with caring for patients in the hospital, I realized that I wanted to expand my knowledge and take on more of an autonomic role with diagnosing and treating patients.

 3. What is one aspect of the job that you find rewarding?
I have a passion for helping my patients gain the knowledge they need to have success with weight loss. It is very rewarding to see their accomplishments knowing that I may have played a small part in their ability to be successful.

I also find it rewarding to help people with gastrointestinal problems. Many people feel uncomfortable talking about this subject, and I feel that I provide a warm, welcoming persona that allows them to feel at ease about opening up to me.

4. In your opinion, what’s the future of your field?
In a time of physician shortages and diminished access to healthcare, nurse practitioners have helped and will continue to help close the healthcare gap. By utilizing our vast knowledge and clinical experience we can offer high quality healthcare, and at heart we will forever be nurses, continuing to carry with us our compassion for helping people.

5. What do you do to achieve work/life balance?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my Portuguese waterdog (Piper), training for the next road race, improving my golf game, traveling to new cities, going to country music concerts, and getting creative in the kitchen.
