1. What is your specialty area?
I am a board-certified family nurse practitioner, but my degree and certification allow me to work in specialty areas as well. I have experience in oncology and am currently excited to be working in gynecology.
2. Why did you want to become a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)?
I have always felt a strong pull toward service-related fields, and as a child I wanted to become a nurse. It took a little while to listen to that voice, and, after following a different career path early on, I went back to school and obtained my Registered Nurse degree in 2016. I wanted to push myself further and become a CRNP so I’d have more autonomy and be able to provide a higher level of care to my patients. I believe it’s important to continue learning and growing at any age or stage in life.
3. What is one aspect of the job that you find rewarding?
I love developing connections with patients and having them feel comfortable to address any concerns they’re having so we can work together to find a solution. The most rewarding aspect of my job is helping someone to achieve a better quality of life and knowing that their experience in the office was a good one so they will continue to come back and maintain regular screenings and visits.
4. In your opinion, what is the future of your field?
There are many opportunities for advanced practice providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to work alongside physicians to afford patients access to quality care. We are fortunate to be in an area with access to multiple hospitals and healthcare facilities with exceptional physicians, although physician extenders are helping to bridge a gap and help in terms of volume and providing care in rural areas where there are not as many physicians available to meet demands.
5. What do you do to achieve work/life balance?
I am a firm believer that it’s important to find time to focus on yourself so you can be the best version of yourself at work, with your family, and with your friends. I enjoy exercising in the evenings (I’ve never been able to motivate myself to exercise in the mornings!) and watching movies in my downtime. I love to travel when I’m able. I am active on the weekends but find time to recharge and relax at home when needed, too. I have two teenage children who keep me busy with their activities, and I love every minute of it. Fortunately, my job is flexible in that I can review charts and finish documentation in the evenings if necessary, which allows me more time to do the other things I mentioned.
Selection of a health care provider is a personal choice. Most or all of the health care providers performing services in this Hospital are independent contractors who have privileges to practice at the Hospital but they are not Hospital employees, representatives or agents. This includes but is not limited to radiologists, pathologists, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, surgeons and others. Independent contractors are responsible for their own actions and the Hospital is not liable for the acts or omissions of any such independent contractors.
If understanding the relationship between your Health Care Provider and this Hospital is important to you, you may ask your Health Care Provider.
