Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber (Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber) recently announced the availability of home sleep testing for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. WMC is one of the few organizations in the region to offer home sleep testing.
Home sleep testing is convenient, because patients remain in the comfort of their own homes. The home provides a natural environment for data collection.
Those with obstructive sleep apnea repeatedly stop breathing during sleep. These individuals sleep poorly and feel tired and sleepy during the daytime. Other symptoms may include frequent nighttime awakenings, snoring, choking and gasping during sleep, restless sleep, difficulty concentrating and morning headaches. Health problems, such as diabetes, stroke, heart attack and depression, have been linked to obstructive sleep apnea.
