September is Fetal Alcohol Awareness Month. There are up to 120 symptoms that make up Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, a diagnosable medical condition seen in children and adults who were exposed to alcohol before birth. Effects are lifelong and can include mental health issues, learning disabilities, hearing, vision, and speech impairments.
The goal of FASD awareness is to educate women (and men) of all ages about the dangers of any alcohol used during pregnancy. This is especially important for women who are pregnant, women who are of childbearing age, and for our CSSMCW health care providers who care for adult patients who may have an FASD.
