March 2026
At Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber, we remain committed to keeping our patients, employees, and community informed about important developments across our organization. As part of that commitment, we will continue to share regular updates about services and initiatives that support healthcare access throughout our region.
Here are a few recent developments and upcoming initiatives:
Over the few months, several initiatives have been implemented to help improve access to healthcare services across our communities.
Community Care Center Now Open
Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber recently opened a new Community Care Center in the former Ortho Walk-In Clinic location in the Professional Building. The Center provides convenient access to walk-in and primary care services for non-emergency health needs, along with primary and chronic care management.
Care is provided Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.by Dr. Elliot Smith and Dr. Kavitha Manjunath of WindberCare Physicians, both of whom are currently accepting new patients.
Patients do not need to be established WindberCare Physicians patients to receive care at the Community Care Center. Community members are encouraged to use the Center for both walk-in and scheduled care needs as services continue to expand. Questions? Call 814-467-3401.
WindberCare Physicians Expansion
WindberCare Physicians recently welcomed two new practice locations in Boswell and Stoystown, formerly Medical Associates of Boswell. We are pleased to welcome the experienced care team to the WindberCare Physicians family.
We are excited to welcome this dedicated team and look forward to continuing to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients in Boswell, Stoystown, and the surrounding communities.
We are also excited to share progress on the reopening of the Windber Hospice inpatient facility in Somerset, anticipated to begin serving patients on June 1, pending final approvals from Medicare and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Originally opened in 2009 through the generosity of the Wheeler family, the facility was designed to provide hospice patients and their families with a peaceful, home-like setting during life’s most difficult moments.
The 10-room inpatient hospice facility will offer:
This expansion strengthens the continuum of care already provided through Windber Hospice’s home-based services and hospital-based inpatient unit.
To prepare for reopening, job and volunteer fairs will be held March 25 from 2–5 p.m. and March 27 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Somerset facility, located at 1474 N. Center Avenue in Somerset.
Like many rural hospitals across the country, we must continually evaluate how we deliver care in the face of rising healthcare costs and changing healthcare needs. Our focus remains on preserving essential services while expanding programs that help meet the needs of our communities.
We remain grateful for the continued support of our patients, employees, volunteers, and community partners, and we look forward to sharing future updates.
