Although they have been in existence for many centuries, the concept of using a labyrinth as a healing tool may be new to many people. Labyrinths are becoming increasingly common at hospitals, schools, churches and community centers across the nation. Including Windber Medical Center, nearly 50 hospitals use labyrinths for their ability to aid healing, enhance wellness, reduce stress and lower blood pressure.
There are two walking labyrinths on the Windber Medical Center campus. They are often used by anxious family members of those under care in the hospital or palliative care unit. Patients walk the labyrinth to relax before undergoing outpatient procedures or surgeries. The WindberCare chaplain also leads prayer walks through the labyrinths. The labyrinths are available to individuals to use whenever they wish. If you would like to schedule a facilitated walk for your group call 814-467-3624. |
