Tribute to Survivors Open House

The Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center hosted this event on October 16, 2011.  Survivors and co-survivors were given the opportunity to meet with Mrs. Joyce Murtha and Dr. Dianna Craig.  The center offered information on resources and programs offered at the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center and Windber Medical Center which support survivorship.  Beautiful mandalas crafted by breast cancer survivors were also displayed for all to enjoy.  This event was funded by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh Affiliate.

Express Yourself 2011 - A Workshop for Breast Cancer Survivors

On Thursday, September 22nd, breast cancer survivors joined together for an evening of fun and companionship at the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center at Windber Medical Center. They were lead by artists, Kelly Robatin and Amy DeRubis-Dabbs and crafted mandalas, a form of art that promotes healing and relaxation. Certified music practitioner, Rachel Allen, provided live harp music during the workshop.

No experience was necessary, they came with an open mind and heart and were able to set free their imagination and created layers of design in a loving and creative environment. During the workshop, two types of mandalas were created. As a group, they created mandalas from a central starting point from which all participants built upon. They also created a personal mandala using pictures, color and paint which they found appealing and meaningful. In the end, a beautiful piece of work that represented each survivor and their personal journey was created.

These beautiful mandalas created will be displayed at the center throughout the month of October and at the annual "Tribute to Survivors" event with Mrs. Joyce Murtha and Dr. Dianna Craig on October 16, 2011.

The Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center offers programs and services to assist breast cancer survivors throughout their journey of survivorship including breast imaging and diagnostics to maintain breast health; lifestyle intervention programs to reduce cancer risk; breast cancer support groups; genetic testing and counseling for Hereditary and Ovarian Cancer Syndromes; and breast self-awareness.
