Obstetric and Emergency Expansion Projects
Growing patient numbers prompted Windber Medical Center to launch a
fund drive to expand several areas of the hospital, which will allow
us to continue to build a healthier future for the communities in
which we serve.
Listed is some information about our current conditions that prompted us to expand:
The current Emergency Department is located in a building added in
1979. Its currently has a one 2-bed trauma cubicle and 4-exam rooms.
This is to serve a
patient population of approximately 5000.
Windber Medical Center treats approximately 12,000 patients
per year in it's emergency department.
WMC's Obstetric Department is also experiencing rapid growth.
Births have risen from less than 100 births a year to approximately
300.
Proposed Renovation Plans are to be done in two phases:
Phase One - Obstetric Department Nursery Expansion Project
-This project was completed and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on July 14, 2011 doubling WMC's capacity.
Phase Two
- Emergency Department
